'IT IS ALL ON YOUR FACE'

Colours can evoke emotions and are very important to creating an 'atmosphere' in an artwork.

Emotional Colour Portraits Ages 8-12years

Believe it or not colours can evoke special feelings and emotions in people. Just like musical notes and rhythm create a mood in a song, artists use their mediums, often colour and lines in particular, to create an ‘atmosphere’ in an artwork.

Emotional Colour Portraits Ages 8-12years

In this activity we explored the paintings of Fauvism looking at the use of different colours and lines and the feelings suggested. We also looked at some different and sometimes funny, emotional colour charts available on the Internet.

These amazing young artists then created our own stirring atmospheric portraits.

We came to the conclusion that often the moods suggested by colour can be personal or subjective feelings rather than one colour meaning the same thing to every person.

EYES 4 WAYS DRAWING SESSION

Eyes 4 ways drawings by 10-12 years

Eyes 4 ways drawings by 8-12 years

Eyes 4 ways drawings by 8-12 years

In this activity our focus was on learning how to draw eyes firstly thinking about shape and line drawing. We then focused on some tonal values to the best of our abilities, which incidentally were amazing for both younger and older students. We then experimented with what we had learnt using three other mediums. Charcoal was a favorite choice. The young artists loved the speed, instantaneousness and intuitiveness of this medium.

Stunning results from everyone.

PERSONAL SHIELDS & FLAG MAKING - It is all about you!

Personal Shields Ages 10-12 years

Personal Shields Ages 8-12 years

Personal Shields Ages 10-12 years

Personal Shields and Flags project was a type of self-portrait with a difference. Our focus for this activity was to think about and create symbols that are represent us and are meaningful to us as a person. Our loves. What are the things that can visually tell others about who we are in the world.

What makes us who we are.

You do not need to be afraid when you have your own shield to protect you.

Warm Colour Sunset Silhouettes.

Here we explored pulling paint across the surface with a straight edged tool (palette knives, scrapers, spatulas etc). Our focus was on warm colours and shapes hence the silhouettes. Some stunning works created this day as well as a lot of fun! Here are just a few examples but stay tuned as there will be more to come
